The Line City

Postby mrki444 » 24 Apr 2025, 14:43

The Line City in Saudi Arabia is a bizarre structure only 200 meters wide but 170 kilometers long, and its creator is Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman himself.

New aerial photos have been released that show the project is making some progress. In the photos released by Giles Pendleton, the project's chief operating officer, the Line can be seen slowly taking shape, with the 200-meter-wide outline of the city slowly emerging from the desert in Tabuk province.

The Line is the most ambitious part of a larger project called NEOM, a key element of Vision 2030, Saudi Arabia's strategy to diversify its economy, which is now completely dependent on oil.

The Line is supposed to be a city that will consist of a series of parallel 500-meter-high skyscrapers stretching across the desert, with all the infrastructure within 200 meters of the width.

The reasoning makes sense. But the architecture? I don't understand it.

I guess they want something special in world. Also maybe they think one line is better for traffic or water supply than grid area like in regular, wider towns.

9 million people should live in Line City. Do you think it is small number or big? I think it is not big numbe and it will not be overpopulated. Also it can't spread easy around since desert is everywhere around.

I wonder how the construction would be done in a way to leave a smaller carbon footprint?
May be, Saudi Arabia would invest a lot to do it in a grand way and something that is Eco Friendly as well.
Also, I wonder if this city would be all commercial or would have Residential blocks as well?

Why not small nuclear power plant? They need more water but solar panels use much more space. Also there are now small, almost mobile, nuclear power plants.

I think solar is a lot safer to use.

New small nuclear units require small amount of nuclear material. For nuke you need much more material.

The scale and design are unlike anything else. It’ll be interesting to see how practical life will be in a city that’s essentially a single line of skyscrapers.

The Line project is unique and very impressive. Seeing such a tall city sprouting up in the middle of the desert is a testament to modern innovation and a grand vision for development.

Although it is challenging to implement a project of this kind, the aerial photos show a positive step forward. This is a sign that big dreams can come true with hard work and careful planning.

For those interested in technology and urban development, The Line is a role model. It shows that the future of urban life can be modern, green, and innovative.
