Is customer data collection by businesses ethical?

Postby kat82 » 11 Sep 2025, 08:04

Companies track shopping behavior to boost sales. Do you think this practice is fair or an invasion of privacy?

I believe it is ethical if strict rules are followed and there should be a limit as to how much data they collect.

I searched for WiFi cameras sometimes back. And I didn't buy though several options came up. Since then, the ads I see are for cameras regardless of what I am searching for. So they collected my data and are using it to target me buy.

Tracking shopping behavior with the goal of increasing sales is a modern business tactic. However, when it comes to knowing an individual better than they know themselves, it becomes an invasion of privacy.
The line is clear: companies should be transparent about the data they collect and use it to serve the customer, not invade them.
