Ignore people who claim it's bad for you.
Oh, and I work and go to the gym while fasting.

24 hour fasts once a week is not what he said he was going to do. He said one meal per day. That is bad for you, in that you can't absorb all the nutrients you need in just one meal (I don't mean calories, I mean vitamins and minerals - certain foods should not be eaten together because they affect the body's ability to absorb nutrients, so there's quite a lot to get right if you're only eating once a day). But you can do what you like.
Calcium for example:
https://ods.od.nih.gov/factsheets/Calcium-Consumer/
"Calcium is absorbed best when you take 500 mg or less at one time. If you take 1,000 mg/day of calcium from supplements, for example, it is better to take a smaller dose twice a day than to take it all at once."

Let's face it, even eating 5 meals a day, most people don't bother looking at vitamins and minerals. I don't take supplements on days when I have 4 meals a day - I just eat whatever and keep it moderately healthy so loads of veg, meat, carbs. Who knows what minerals etc I'm getting!

Jem Smith wrote:I don't know about most people, but I do care, and pay attention to the vitamins and minerals in my food. I mentioned calcium as an example because it's something that women in particular get told to be careful to keep an eye on as we age in order to prevent getting osteoporosis later in life. Since I don't get enough calcium through food (it's difficult if you don't eat dairy, which I don't) so I take a supplement for it. You can't get enough calcium to keep up your body's stores of it in one go, so it needs to be spread across multiple meals (or meals and a supplement). That you don't bother to pay attention to this doesn't make it any less true.
I wasn't saying that you should supplement. I was saying that eating one meal a day (which is what the OP was actually talking about, not fasting only some days) would not allow the average person to get enough of certain nutrients.
