Stop using aluminum foil and save

Postby Yugocean » 02 Jan 2023, 05:23

Food is often packed in aluminum foil in homes to pack tiffin; this is a mistake. Food in aluminium foil stays hot longer and can be reheated in the microwave, but avoid it.

I take my food in normal tiffin with normal napkins, and it doesn't decrease the taste. While there is a risk of bone disease from aluminum foil, save the health budget by stopping the expenditures on it.

It is a good thing that I eat my meals at home now. In this way, I will not use these materials to maintain the physical properties or even chemical properties of my foods for the day.

Sorry but I am not familiar with tiffin, what is it?

I sometimes wrap food such as chicken in tin foil, when keeping it in the fridge until the next day. Do you have a suggestion for a better option for that?

Tiffin is Indian English word commonly used for lunch box (but tiffin word is used for breakfast, lunch, dinner or snack, whatever you take out).

My non veg relatives just put these items in frostfree freezers (ino need for tin cover), to keep it from getting spoiled. I keep peas in boxed and keep them in such freezers.
You don't need foil, normal cardboard box will work, and you can use same box multiple times.

You have made a very valid suggestion here. Not only they are healthier to use but also eco friendly and green. Banana leaves have been a part of Indian tradition..Even now, they are widely used, not only for wrapping but also for serving meals.

Not here they aren't. Sounds like a great option if you have them though.

If I am taking hot food I use a thermos container. I heat it at home and it stays hot until lunch time. It wouldn't work if you had to wait longer than 4 or 5 hours though.

If I'm keeping leftovers in the fridge I keep them in a sealed plastic container. If it something that doesn't fit I use cling wrap rather than foil. It's not great for the environment though, unless you get the biodegradable kind. I also have some wax coated cloths that can be used to wrap food or cover bowls but I haven't used them much.

Edit: Hang on, you said that foil can be reheated in the microwave. Don't put foil in the microwave! It can create sparks and even cause a fire.

The government here has even banned the production of foil containers because of its bad effects when food are stored in them. it is better to use stainless containers
