I think self-teaching is great if you can do that. When I was going to college I liked attending classes. But my late husband chose Independent Study. He received the course materials at home, studied them on his own, took exams, and earned college credits. Some people have the discipline to be self-taught.

@cmoneyspinner
Your husband had a lot of discipline and motivation to be successful in that type of learning environment. I agree, self-teaching can be a great option for those who have the drive and determination to learn on their own.

I was always interested in stocks but didn't think I had the money. My late husband started with mutual funds because back then you only needed $500 to get started. He started and then educated himself about investing. He used to watch the business channels on cable TV. He learned a lot from those programs. If you're teaching yourself, look for business channels on TV or via YouTube.
