UK will now allow 16 year olds to vote

Postby Netherrealmer » 18 Jul 2025, 05:18

The prime minister of uk thinks that since 16 years old are now working at that age and allowed to work and also pay taxes, they are now allowed to vote in elections for sure they're not yet adults but that's the age where they start paying taxes. The prime minister of uk thanks all taxpayers should be given the power to vote

Well in a way it makes sense, if they consider them mature enough to handle a job and salary, while not allow them vote as well?

I am not sure. I work with kids until 15 years old and before I worked with 15 to 18 years old. Rare which of them had any interest in politics, enviroment and most important, community stuff. They don't care about new roads, factorys, water supply. 15 years don't think about anything just tiktok and 18 years just how to get job.

The UK's move to allow 16-year-olds to vote is a major step forward in its democracy. According to an official statement, the government has announced that from the next general election, young people of that age will be able to fully participate in elections.

The British Prime Minister has made it clear that if someone can work, pay taxes and even serve in the military, then they should also have the right to vote. This is part of a plan to reform the electoral system and strengthen the participation of young citizens in national decision-making.

Although 16 is not the age of full adulthood, the government believes that giving these young people a political voice is a way of recognising them as an important part of society. For those who pay taxes, voting is a fundamental right. The move puts the UK on the list of the few countries in the world that allow voting under the age of 18.

When I saw this on the news, I felt it made sense. I mean, in the UK, you can start working at 16. So, it only seems right that 16-year-olds are allowed to vote. Also, these young adults are becoming more and more interested in politics, especially if it affects them directly. I've seen some really young podcasters who discuss burning political issues with so much confidence, it's amazing.

Today's children grow up fast in both mind and body Sixteen seems a reasonable age as they can think for themselves.

You know what, this have pros and cons because this will give teenagers who are aware of what is happening the wrong things that need to be corrected you know, the intelligent teens to vote because seriously, the worst politicians these days are elected because of older people but on the other hand those little boys who got indoctrinated by Andrew Tate are going to be able to vote
