When Your Make-Up Doesn't Go On Right

Postby Spontaneo » 17 Apr 2025, 10:32

Lately, my make-up refuses to go on right.

My biggest problem is my eyeliner and mascara.

The eyeliner works like a No.2 pencil, even when I use a Bic lighter to soften the pencil. The pencil just refuses to apply.

My mascara makes myself look like a beat up football player.

How am I supposed to look pretty?

I don't wear any makeup. I went to look for some kind of answer that might help, but the best I found was that you are not alone. At least some of these makeover fails can give you a laugh as you try, try, try again.

which also lead me to this page of free images on a similar topic.

While I was searching, I also came across this one about hair fails. Just as funny

Unfortunately I think cheap makeup just doesn't work as well as the expensive stuff (or at least medium expensive, doesn't have to be the very best quality). For example, I treated myself to a nice lipstick which was about $40 when I got my new job. I was amazed with how much better it is than a $10 or even a $20 lipstick. I put it on in the morning and it goes on smoothly and lasts all day without me needing to reapply it, even after eating.

Ageing is a factor too. Sometimes makeup is harder to apply as we age, because our skin changes over time. Maybe you could try switching to a liquid eyeliner instead of a solid one? They also make makeup specially for mature women (which here I think means over 40 or so), though it's probably expensive.

I find mascara difficult to apply, so I don't use it. When I want darker lashes I tint them with special dye I buy at the chemist. It lasts for about a month. It's difficult to apply yourself though- best to get a friend to do it, or go to a hairdresser or beautician.

I've tried using both an eyeliner pencil, crayon, and liquid eyeliner and they never work for me! I do my eyeliner using black eyeshadow and a thin angled brush to draw it on instead haha. It's a lot easier to control, and the thinness of the brush makes it look pretty neat and sharp. Easy to remove, too.

Thank you for the tip! I wear purple shadow to base and contour with white highlight and I wear black shadow to base and contour with white highlight. I think that either could work with the method that you suggest. Thanks, again!
