Lent - March 5th

Postby Spontaneo » 07 Feb 2025, 01:40

Today, I was all proud of myself. I was thinking that Lent was very soon. So, while grocery shopping today, I bought beer-battered fish for Fridays.

I just happened to look online and found out that Lent doesn't begin until March 5th! Wow was I mistaken!

Atleast now I may think very hard about what I want to give up for Lent instead of rushing.

Do you celebrate Lent? If so, what are you giving up?

Below is a Lent calendar:

I don't celebrate it because I'm not a Catholic (or religious at all). I think it's an interesting idea though, as a way to be more mindful of your beliefs. Ramadan is coming up soon too (starting March 1).

Every Lent, I participate in "40 Items For Lent". This is when you set aside 40 items of your belongings to give up to donate as your part in giving up something for Lent. Items could be clothes, food, etc.

I hadn't heard of that before, but do like the idea. It is something that could help those more in need and also help the person making the donations to declutter a little.

Absolutely! When the item is an item that you really do not want to give up though, that is when the giving up really means alot.

I love Catholic church fish fries! However, such fish fries are so expensive now. I can only afford frozen Gorton's Beer-Battered fish at the grocery store.

You do not need to fill up a bag every single day. I simply choose 1 item per day.

The following article might explain the 40 Items For Lent better than myself:

In a couple of weeks, I am going to a Roman Catholic Church fish fry. Yep, the church that did myself wrong this past Christmas.

You have a choice of a spaghetti dinner, fish dinner or fish sandwich and a ton of sides. All meals are $14.00. The cost used to be $10.00!

I am going to my church's fish fry this upcoming Friday. Yes, Roman Catholic.

I am not sure whether to buy a fish dinner or a fish sandwich. Spaghetti is also an option, but I have a problem consuming (chewing) most pasta.

Whichever you choose, the cost is $14.00.

I have been looking so forward to dining at my church's fish fry today with my roommate. Now she does not want any fish and is just going to drive there and pick up my dinner and bring the dinner home. She is having dinner with a friend yet we have been planning this outing together as she is never home.

I am not going to see my priest which is a major disappointment. I am still upset with him about Christmas but I do miss him.

I still had a fish dinner as my roommate brought the fish dinner home to myself. I just felt bad as my roommate had changed her mind about dining there. Atleast I got my fish dinner, right?
