Football teams that wear red kits play better!

Postby Angie10 » 27 Jan 2025, 13:08

Did you know? Football teams that wear red kits are believed to play better. The colour of your clothes can affect how you’re perceived by others and change how you feel. A review of football matches in the last 55 years, for example, has shown shown that teams wearing a red kit consistently played better in home matches than teams in any other colour.

I’m no fan of the colour red, but I guess that’s why EPL giants such as Arsenal and Liverpool are as big as they are! Personally, I dare say even as an Everton fan, Manchester City is the best EPL team, and they wear blue(one of my favourite colours!).

Do you buy this, do you believe colour can influence outcomes? I couldn’t be convinced to wear red even if it brought be success… that’s how much I dislike the colour.

Colors affect perception even when there is no real difference in the actual applications

The color red happens to affect people more than any other color and in different ways. Some either hate red when they see it while some are drawn to it. There is rarely a middle ground involved.

Red clothing even down to the necktie can be intimidating. It can somehow change the perception in those you face and give you a psychological edge in business dealings even if you are actually incompetent.

In the past, it was commonly believed that a red car would attract a drunk driver to see you as a target to aim at. Red cars were thought to be involved in more drunk driving accidents than any other color. The insurance companies have clearly debunked that idea. Colors do not affect your policy rates at all.

Not about red, but referring to how people are affected by color:

Back when I was in school, most pencils were in the standard yellow. You could also buy them in different colors, but people thought the other colored pencils were lower in quality. There was no difference but the color of the paint. However, it appears the world has forgotten those other colors. No #2 pencils can be found in any other color but yellow now. At least I could not find any in my multiple searches just now.

Bulls don't see the color red. They don't care what is attracting their attention. I don't know if is true or just a rumor, but I have read that the use of the red flag is to obscure the blood during the final kill.

Red … not just bullony.

I also had that believe that any team that wears red wins the game. While i was growing up back then in school the red house always comes first and so, because of that we all wanted to join the red group .

Manchester United wear red and they have been a mess for some years now. Real Madrid that is the most successful team in Europe wear white. It is not by colours of jerseys.

This was my first idea when I read title. Look at Manchester United. They are joke for everybody, not just in England. Also Arsenal is simbol for losing title. Always near top but never at top.

There could be a psychological element in this respect.
Yet we have Germany who won World Cups and other big tournaments mostly wearing Whites.
Brazil wears Yellow & Green.
Argentina has White and Blue.
Netherlands does comes out in Red at times.
Spain, yes, they do wear red mostly although I saw them wearing White in a few matches.
But France does not wears Red.

So I think that the color "Red" could be one of the "factors" although not a success "formula".

Anyways, this is a pretty interesting discussion !!

I do agree, it must be a psychological thing. I think it may also be based on superstition because red is associated with danger.

Manchester United have been woeful lately even with their traditional red jerseys. Liverpool won the league and their main jersey is red too.
