Has OTT apps reduced the Cinema Business?

Postby JASPREET » 18 Dec 2024, 08:45

I feel they have because many people can easily watch their favorite movies at home and even on their phones. Almost everyone has a smart TV and can easily use that OTT subscription to watch the movie anytime they want at the expense of a single movie ticket.

It's a blessing for an introvert like me.

I have never had interest to go to a movie house when I can easily download what I want to watch from home. I think with time people would prefer watching online. The only reason why most people go to the movie houses is cause you get to watch it there first before anywhere else, and the fun of watching it with a crowd.

OTT apps have made it more convenient for people to watch movies from the comfort of their own homes. It's a cost effective and time-saving option for many.

I don't know about APPS, but I use smart TV, so the question should be OTT / Streaming service only.
And yes, we stopped going to Cinema since Covid, and now we only like OTT.

It's best for the family as you can buy the subscription easily and its cost-effective, you can watch any number of times you want, you don't need to spend money to go to the cinema and buy expensive food

Yes OTT has made a dent in Cinema viewing.
The main reason apart from convenience is the price.
A single movie ticket often costs from 270 to 400.
However, for a single movie on OTT costs such a minor fraction of that price.
Apart from that, often one wants snacks and drinks during Movie watching. The prices of those Products is also quite high.
So the folks running cinemas should look into making tickets and those snacks more economical.
Not by a big % but by some significant amount.

We are currently into watching "Red One". This movie was released in Halls the last month and within a month it is on Amazon Prime Video.
For many folks, it is a suitable way to watch a movie in comfort and at a much lower cost as to what one sees in a Hall.

Exception could be when one wants to watch great action sequences of a movie on a grand scale.
That can be done on the Big Movie Screen and not on one's TV.

Theaters now rely on gimmicks like special popcorn buckets and sing along versions in case of musicals.

I don't think we have this here at present and I feel not many are interested in watching a movie in Cinemas unless they expect that to be a blockbuster hit

OTT has affected the Cinema business but its a good option for producers and actors as they can sell the movie rights to popular OTT networks and make good money

OTT is like a blessing for many, those who don't like to go out for movies can watch movies at home and this has given new and struggling actors another opportunity to earn because these OTT apps are adding web series and short movies almost daily

With OTT, We can enjoy web series and movies that we cannot even expect to watch in Cinema because not all Cinemas agree to play all types of movies
