Tips for dealing with an itchy scalp?

Postby Fergal » 12 Dec 2024, 06:55

Do you have any tips for dealing with an itchy scalp? I've tried different types of shampoos and they haven't made much difference. I also occasionally used Betnovate scalp application, which helps but it is not a long term solution.

I went through several years with an itchy scalp and enough dandruff to snow all over everything with a simple head shake. I tried every medicated dandruff shampoo on the market and all of them seemed to make it worse. Seemed like the more I used them the more I snowed with every scratch. My shirt collars were always speckled with the evidence. It got to the point I referred to dandruff shampoo as dandruff in a bottle.

I happened to receive a Christmas Gift of Men's shampoo offered by Mary Kay. Here in the states Mary Kay is an affiliate sales program where (mostly ladies) can start a home business selling mostly beauty aids and hair care items.

All I can say is it was an astounding difference. The itch stopped. The flakes stopped. I've now been using this stuff for the past 30 years and all those previous issues are almost hard to remember.

Might not be the only product that works but you might look into a very high quality shampoo to do the same. Not likely to be in a grocery or drug store but a fancy hair salon might carry the good stuff.

Aloe vera gel helps with an itchy scalp. You put it on your scalp, leave it for a few minutes and then wash it out. That's just to soothe the itch though, not to tackle what made it itchy.

Thanks OldGuy, does that Mary Kay shampoo have a particular name? The closest I found on their website is this.

Thank you Jem Smith, I will try that if the itch gets worse.

Yes that actually helps Netherrealmer, when my hair is shorter my scalp is less itchy. However, I do prefer having hair, especially when it is colder in the Winter time.
