POLL: Korean Historical Drama / Horror (Sort of)

Postby cmoneyspinner » 12 Dec 2017, 19:51

I have a K-drama addiction. Specifically, I enjoy watching Korean historical period dramas. The thing is they can be very time-consuming and if I watch a series I want it to be worth my while. (Example: "Jumong" is on my watch list. But I'm holding off because it has 80+ episodes! )

I have become a fan of Lee Joon-gi and he stars in this series titled “The Scholar Who Walks the Night”.

What's my problem with it? It's about vampires. :o

I'm not really into the horror genre, but I really don't know what to expect when the plot is about vampires during the Joseon Dynasty. :?

I'm really confused but I must choose.
~ I want to watch it because I'm a fan of Lee Joon-gi and love K-drama.
~ But I don't want to watch it because, no matter how popular they are in Western folklore (thanks to that Twilight series), I'm just not into vampires.

What should I do?
Should I stay loyal to Lee Joon-gi and indulge my K-drama addiction OR should I draw the line at vampires?
This is a really hard decision. Help me out!

I don't know anything about Korean dramas but I love vampire movies so I would definitely say yes. I binge watch when I find something I really like so go for it and then you can come back and let me know what it was like :D

I've watched Descendant of the sun recently. I love the flows of the story. I'm not addicted to Korean dramas but if the series is good to watch for sure I'm gonna watch it if I have the time. Lots of my friends are so addicted to Korean dramas I don't know why but they say they love how the story goes. I appreciate Korean dramas but I'm still fanatic of American series.

This POLL is closed but the comments are not.

Here's my update.

I got distracted and watched some other K-dramas. Went back to this one. I've watched episodes 1 and 2. It's "unique". :? I think I will watch all of the episodes. It's very entertaining. :D

If you're into Korean drama, see my other thread.

I have been watching “The Scholar Who Walks the Night” and I am so pleased. It's not anything like I expected. But to be honest I didn't know what to expect. I'm so surprised at the plot. A word I would use to describe it is "unconventional". Man oh man! That bad vampire is giving the people fits! I just got to know this ends. I'm up to episode 16.

Lee Joon-gi is eye candy!

I love K dramas too. My advice is just watch it. For me, no matter how long the episode is, I'm really going to finish it all. As long as I really like the drama. I love Hwarang, Hwayugi and Legend of the blue Sea. Aside from that, I think I already seen a lot of K dramas.

This is on Netlfix. I might check it out.

I finished "The Scholar Who Walks the Night". 20 episodes. I thought the ending was "weak" but I don't know how I would have written it differently. On the plus side, none of the actors and actresses disappointed me. I would like to see them again in other roles.

Fun thing I like to do. Learn Korean words.
The Korean word for "twilight" is "eoseuleum".

Source: https://www.wordhippo.com/what-is/the/k ... b2255.html

As for the series? I wasn't a fan of the American Twilight and not interested in a Korean version.

Korean words for twilight:

어스름 noun
[88% of use]
eoseuleum dusk, half-light

미광 noun
[12% of use]
migwang faint light

희미하게 비추다 verb
[rare]
huimihage bichuda twilight

여명의 adjective
[rare]
yeomyeong-ui twilight

어슴푸레한 짐작 noun
[rare]
eoseumpulehan jimjag twilight
