Its the Pytagorean Theoreme, as Mell just said !

Imagine you a triangle (with a rectangular base) and you only two of the three sides, than you can find it by doing that formula !

I don't know... I can't really remember much from school.
Probably the majority of my classes, but the one that comes to mind is Science. I don't know how knowing that animal cells have different properties to plant cells helps me much, or the charge of electrons being -1.

That is true. I think no one can pronounce that word correctly coz the spelling is like that.
