Have never had any interest in keeping pets in my whole life but I think its because of the exposure that I don't have.

The most strange pet

Postby SuncicaZ » 21 Nov 2017, 21:44

If you think that lizard or spider is a weird pet, remember that Victorians had real gnomes. They had some small people that were sup[posed to sit in their gardens and act like real gnomes. The only good thing about this is that they had really good salary.

Do hedgehogs count as unusual pets? I had two of them. Samson and Delilah.

Do you mean to tell us that you had such an unusual bird for a pet and now you can't remember what type of bird it was? How old were you when you owned it?

Um ... they would not have been "live chickens" then, would they? :wtf:

When I was very young, I collected toads from the yard just for fun, but never did much of anything with them. I usually ended up letting them go before going in for dinner because my mom would not let me bring them in.

We also collected jars of lightening bugs just to watch them flicker at night but they never lived for long once captured.

One time, I captured a preying mantis and kept him in my pocket. I had him (or her?) around for a few days. I was in class one day when he climbed out of my pocket and up to my shoulder. The girl in the seat behind me screamed as if the school was on fire. I was sent to the guidance office for discipline for bringing him to school and they made me go outside and let him go.

During the time I lived in a house in the woods I frequently played with the wild critters I met in my own backyard. Once they got used to me they quit running away and I often tossed them food scraps. I also had some large spiders who built big nests on my back deck and it was fun to feed them and watch them in action. I never did find out what kind they were, but one was bright yellow and the other bright orange. They were the largest spiders I have personally seen, even bigger than the tarantulas I had for awhile when I lived out west.

I have actually had several dogs, a couple of cats and a couple of birds who lived in the house with me for a few years as each were my pet during their time.

So yea, I suppose I have had a few unusual pets from time to time over the years.

Doh :) well spotted OldGuy, you are absolutely right of course, not sure how I missed that! You've certainly had more than your fair share of unusual pets.
