Postby ksridharprasad » 31 May 2015, 18:26

Hi Friends,

I have seen that un-manned billing machines at wall mart, yesterday I have visited wall mart with my son, there I have find that there is no person at billing counter. My son he himself checked the items he purchased at the counter and paid the bill by his credit card, first time I am observing this type of un-manned billing machines at malls wow! America

Yeah, they're becoming surprisingly more common around the globe. It's cheaper to have those than employ staff

Here in my part of Canada we do not have those at Wal Mart. we just have the express checkout lane for 10 items or less then the regular lanes. I don't know if I would want to use one of those in case it got tampered with somehow.

Please scan your item and place in the bagging area. Please remove the last item from the bag. Please wait, an assistant will be along to assist. Please scan your item and place in the bagging area. Please remove the last item from the bag.

These seem like the most hated bit of technology in retail. Most people (including staff) hate them. They are just not reliable enough most of the time. They are ok if you just want a few things and they are of standard weight (a bar of chocolate) but they are not that good for fruit/vegetables that you have to weigh or things like plants that vary in weight.

Some Tesco stores here in Ireland have them. Personally I hate them and they never seem to work properly. Seems like every time I use them an assistant has to come and help me. Sometimes I think it's another sign I'm getting old, younger people are probably much more comfortable using new technology like that :(

Tesco's, morrisons, asda's all big super markets have them. Also B&Q and Argos has similar pay with card without going to que. If i be honest I love the argos one as its really easy and very convenient as argos is really busy all over the country.

If you are talking about Morrisons, they are not actually doing away with them but instead adding a human checkout for people who are only buying a few things. I don't think any supermarket will do away with them as they do save supermarkets alot of money.
