Australia's PM Albanese Marries Jodie Haydon

Postby germainebull » 30 Nov 2025, 11:22

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has married his partner Jodie Haydon in Canberra, making history as it is the first time an Australian leader has married while still in office. The ceremony was held at the Lodge, the official residence of the Prime Minister, and was very private, attended by close family and friends. His son Nathan was there and Jodie's parents also witnessed the event.

The couple released a statement saying they were delighted to share their love and commitment in front of their family and close friends. The wedding was officiated by a celebrant from the Central Coast and the couple wrote their own vows. Jodie entered the ceremony led by her parents as Ben Folds' The Luckiest was played. Albanese wore a suit by MJ Bale and Jodie wore a designer gown by Romance was Born. The wedding rings were from Cerrone Jewellers.

The flower girl was Jodie's five-year-old niece and Albanese's dog Toto was the ring bearer. Witnesses were Jodie's brother Patrick and Albanese's cousin Helen Golden. After the ceremony, the couple walked around listening to Stevie Wonder's Signed Sealed Delivered and their first dance was Frank Sinatra's The Way You Look Tonight. Their honeymoon will be in Australia next week and they have paid for it all themselves.

Guests included senior figures such as treasurer Jim Chalmers and his wife Laura, foreign minister Penny Wong, finance minister Katy Gallagher and ALP secretary Paul Erickson, as well as chief of staff Tim Gartrell. The pair met more than five years ago at a Melbourne event when Jodie said "Up the Rabbitohs" in reference to Albanese's team. They later started communicating on social media and the connection grew. Albanese proposed to her on Valentine's Day 2024 on the balcony of the Lodge after dinner in Canberra and had a bespoke engagement ring made for her.

Jodie often accompanies Albanese to events and official trips and also campaigns. Although she is media shy, she has taken on the roles of the PM's spouse as patron of the National Portrait Gallery. Albanese was previously married to Carmel Tebbutt, who was the deputy premier of NSW, and they were together for almost twenty years before divorcing in 2019. Jodie comes from a family of teachers in Bankstown and grew up on the Central Coast and now works for the NSW Public Service Association.

Quite an interesting event.
Such events with an acting head of a country is not a common phenomenon.
I saw this news prominently in the world news section of the newspaper.
