Army near the biggest Italian landmarks

Postby mrki444 » 15 Aug 2025, 11:16

I decided to travel around Italy for a few days for the summer. We traveled to Bologna, Florence and Pisa. What I noticed in Florence and Pisa were soldiers near the biggest landmarks. I haven't traveled to many countries, but usually there are more police because of possible riots, attacks or thieves. I haven't seen or heard of the army from other travelers.

Shouldn't there be more police than army in Italy too?

This towns are not in south Italy so all immigrants there are legal or live for many years there. Problems with immigration are in Sicily.

This is an important observation because cities like Florence and Pisa have major landmarks that attract thousands of tourists every day and the government often places soldiers or police near these areas for security reasons. It is a way to ensure that visitors feel protected and also to protect heritage sites that are very important to Italian tourism and history. Such a situation has become common in cities with major tourist hotspots.
