The Toxic Truth: Delhi Out, But India's Pollution Crisis Deepens

Postby ptrikha21 » 02 Nov 2025, 13:31

India now grapples with a startling air quality crisis, as a recent report revealed a horrifying development: all forty of the world’s most polluted cities on a single day were located within the country's borders. In a dark, truly ironic twist, New Delhi, long synonymous with the infamous smog season, actually slipped out of the global top ten list. This ‘victory,’ however, is a hollow one. Smaller northern towns like Sri Ganganagar (Rajasthan), which recorded a jaw-dropping Air Quality Index (AQI) of 830, and Siwani (Haryana) have aggressively taken the top ranks. This alarming shift confirms that the severe pollution problem has effectively metastasized beyond major metros into the entire northern plains, fueled by a toxic cocktail of agricultural stubble burning, vehicular exhaust, and persistent construction dust (Times of India). The nation desperately seeks a permanent fix for this widespread public health hazard.

Absolutely alarming. This shift underscores the urgent need for comprehensive pollution control measures across all regions, not just major cities.

Steps so far are proving to be inadequate.
Also I think there is too much growth of private vehicles. Public transport is proving to be highly insufficient.
Odd Even was not the best but perhaps we need to go back to it again.

They say that the situation in India is very dangerous, they don't see how the air has turned into pure poison, that is, all forty cities with the most polluted air in the world are there. India is like the whole world. It has decided to smoke in New Delhi. Even if it comes down, it won't help because now the villages and small towns have become complete smoke machines.

I have observed AQI using Google Maps every day for a long time here at my place. What I have seen is in autumn and winter times it is extremely bad. But summer and rainy season AQI is very good. Don't know how accurate Google Maps' AQI feature is.

Lahore has now become a headline because of pollution. The air is full of smog. People are unable to even see clearly. The situation has become very bad. The AQI is very high, which means the air is dangerous to health. People are wearing masks and closing windows. The government is trying to crack down, but the pressure is still high. This is a big alarm for everyone's life in the city and requires urgent action.
