Hand Washing

Postby bestwriter » 30 Oct 2025, 03:59

Post Pandemic hand washing has become a habit with me. What was never a habit it now comes naturally to me each time I touch something leading to hands that need washing

Hands are never free. They always touch something - may be door handles, working on computers, working on mobiles all this and more are the cause of bacteria that settles on hands.

What is your story?

I do not use a sanitizer which I used to during the Pandemic Looking back I cannot think of the way we lived. - Stuff brought from the stores was kept outside and brought it only after it was washed
- Wearing masks
- Spraying of furniture after visitors left

Hand washing is a good habit provided it do not enter in psycho level, lest it may turn into mental disease. I saw few people those who do it again and again, sometimes without any reason.

Exactly like you. My hand never stops washing. Every time I touch something I am afraid of germs. Doors, phones, computers have a lot of dirt. Always turn on water and soap. This habit is good for your health. Many people are now accustomed to washing their hands. Your hygiene habits are important. Good health starts with clean hands.

Absolutely, it's fascinating how our habits have evolved. I've definitely adopted the same practice—becoming more mindful of hygiene has been a positive outcome of the pandemic.

Centuries ago, there was a doctor who noticed a pattern: many women were dying after giving birth. He suggested that doctors should wash their hands before assisting in childbirth. However, at the time, the Catholic Church was very powerful, and when he proposed handwashing, the Church dismissed his ideas and labeled him as crazy. As a result, many women continued to die. Eventually, people realized that handwashing was indeed necessary to prevent these deaths — and once they adopted it, the deaths stopped. At that time, people didn’t yet understand germs or bacteria.

What has washing hands got to do with the Catholic Church? Is it because Pilate washed his hands - I find it odd.

Well, it is the same church that demands to burn women alive because they got accused of being a witch. And those women are not even witches. They just love making herbal medicines, or they just have a pet cat so there will be no mice on their backyard, or they just broom their house so their backyard will be clean. And back then, it was like grounds to be burned alive and be accused of being a witch. And, you know, when people finally realized that the doctor who campaigned for handwashing is true, less women died from giving birth. The survival rate increased immensely.

The modern church no longer believes in what used to be in the good old days. But what that has to to do with washing hands is not clear

Simple, because back then, they have the agenda to tell people that all of their problems, all of the challenges in life can only be solved by prayers, and the beliefs of hand-washing may go against their agenda. There are so many scientists and doctors who have been killed by the church back then. Because it's against their agenda that everything can be solved by prayers. It's the reason why, you know, they accuse women who make herbal medicines, witches back then.Let's just be happy that they don't have control of society anymore. I think the only country they have a chokehold with is Philippines since it's the last country with no divorce.

Speaking of handwashing, I remember the training I have from Red Cross about handwashing that you have to sing Happy Birthday to you inside your mind because that is the right length of handwashing you should do.

You have no idea how unhygienic people are hundreds of years ago. I think they did wash hands, but you know, no soap. Although before soap, they used lye and ash to wash their hands.

They may have been unhygienic but that I do not think should be connected to church teachings ;)
