Math Class

Postby Spontaneo » 17 Jun 2025, 21:12

Maybe you can tell myself in simple English.

Do you stink at math too?

I googled (yes, I actually googled) and still do not understand.

A recipe that I really really like calls for 0.2 salt. From what I understood, not enough for my liking. So, I used a zillion dashes, not knowing actually what 0.2 meant.

MyFitnessPal gave myself 2 sodium warnings.

I searched online for salt alternatives, but the only alternative is potassium chloride. Yes, you can use lemon juice, sugar with honey. However, sodium is required for our health with these.

So, what would you say 0.2 of salt equals?

Yeah, I'm not great at maths. I didn't do any maths subjects at school past year 10 because that's when it stopped being compulsory. I can do the basic stuff I need for life (addition, subtraction, times tables etc.) and for anything else I can usually just look it up and/or use a calculator.

"A recipe that I really really like calls for 0.2 salt"

That's weird. 2 milligrams I suppose. Seems oddly precise. Usually recipes say things like "a pinch of salt" or "a teaspoon" (although that seems like a lot, I dunno I don't cook with salt much).

One thing to bear in mind- when they salt that's not the same as "sodium". I found this sodium to salt converter that might help.

As kryptonite is superman weakness, math is also a huge weakness to me as well.

Not really. A teaspoon of salt is a lot. It's about 2300 mg of sodium. One regular fries from McDonalds has 230mg.

@Jem Smith, I would only be able to drink one water with my homemade water enhancer once a day.

I think something must be amiss with the maths there. You don't put a teaspoon of salt in one drink do you?

The recipe calls for 0.2 teaspoon per glass.

Then you could drink more than one in a day. Unless you put a lot of salt in all your food as well.
