Social Media/AI vis-a-vis Reading Habits?

Postby ptrikha21 » 08 Jun 2025, 18:35

One of my routine habit was Reading a Book- for a long time dominantly Fiction but of late some Non Fictional stuff as well.
However, this year 2025 has been going in a way where my Book Reading has taken a kind of hit.
I did read a novel in January.
Plus finished a book a few months back.
However, work pressures, Time on Online course, pressure to do & earn more online as well as advent of AI and learning more on it has meant that time for book reading has squeezed.
Plus sometimes I make a call in favor of spending more time Online on different sites, Twitter etc rather than reading.
I would have to make some conscious efforts to get back into Reading habit.
Not because I have some kind of a legacy penchant.
Yet because I believe that Regular Reading is quite vital.

Yeah reading stuff online probably causes a lot of people to read fewer books. Although when I was younger most people didn't have home internet and those of us who enjoyed reading novels were considered nerds back then too- it wasn't a hugely popular pastime for young people at least.

I've read fewer novels than I used to in the last year or two, but that was mainly because I was busy studying. I've been getting back into it lately. I couldn't sleep last night so I read maybe 60 pages of a novel. I agree, it's a good idea to make time for reading if you can.

Now we sometimes need to make a conscious effort as apart from Social Media, we also have a range of Streaming services, like Netflix, Disney+Hotstar and Amazon Prime Video.
Then of course, there is YouTube.
