After the recent short India Pakistan conflict and realizing that India wants to add more muscle to its Air Force, two competing parties are vying to sell Fighter jets to India.
Russia's Su-57 vs America's F-35.
The scales are tilted towards Su-57 as Russia is more willing to do the Technology transfer as well.
With F 35, there could be more strings attached plus India's western border enemy has had F 16 planes.

However, some dynamic calculation or big offer from US could tilt the balance.
Or could there be a dark horse like Euro Typhoon Fighter Jet?

Russian weapons are not good though, they lose to the Himars which is just a pick up truck with rockets. Russia is now using Iranian drones since Russian weapons lost to Civilian Ukrainians

I feel that many weapons from Russia and NATO side have very less to distinguish.
So in some cases, Russian weapons lag and in others, NATO/US ones do.
Yet in terms of historical familiarity, Russian weapons are more preferred by Indian forces barring Attack helicopters, some of which India has purchased from US.

As a matter of fact, our indigenous Light Combat Aircraft manufacturing is work in progress.
There is a company called Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL).
The delivery of these Aircrafts has been delayed and analysts point to Red Tapism and a lack of work culture (HAL is a Government Firm).
Now, Government has woke up to the idea of more private participation(Tatas, L&T, Mahindra Group etc) but frankly, India as a Nation needs to do much more for Indigenous Science and technology initiatives.

Yes I agree that our scientists have done a lot but the whole ecosystem needs to do a lot.
So to bridge the gap, we do need some external fighter planes.

I am not aware about the Red Sea incident.
