ToTW Use of Hashtags vis-a-vis greater SEO visibility?

Postby ptrikha21 » 30 Mar 2025, 09:41

We come on FC.
We post, discuss and then go away.
When we see different posts here- whether they be Articles, Tutorials, Own experiences, Queries, News etc. , we feel as if it is the whole world.

Yet for the world outside, we need to make our Posts/Discussions/Articles more "visible", "active" and so on.
To cut the long story short, we need to make it more SEO ready.

I know that Fergal, OldGuy and other folks - the Admins and others would have made efforts, plans and implementations over the years to achieve more SEO friendliness.

I would like to add a question:

Do we need to add another field with the "Keywords", or start adding Hashtags for a better visibility.
I know that it is not easy to hard guess how Google Algorithms or "Crawler" works.
Yet I feel that Hashtags could give at least a crux or category of what is posted here.

Even incremental SEO friendliness addition per post could add up to something more substantial.

So is it a good idea to recommend all members to use Hashtag (# followed by the main topic idea or ideas) at least for newly started discussions?

I have done with a few of my discussions.

Comments awaited!

Thanks for your suggestion ptrikha21, I do like the idea of doing that. Our current version of our forum software doesn't provide very well for that, however, perhaps it is something we can implement when we upgrade it.

As @fergal has said, if there is an upgrade, this would be an awesome idea to implement to make this forum more visible.

Any plans of upgrading?
I do not want any insider information but I would like to know an overview of the Technical upgrades when they happen.

In our Project, we recently had a Version Control system change to Github and it was quite a learning experience !

While Keywords are not a main influencer of SEO, I have seen that some Keywords do make a difference.
And if some Keywords go viral, it is of even a bigger help.

Hi ptrikha21, if possible I would like to get it done this year. Sorry I can't be more definite than that.

I hope you enjoyed it. I use Github for version control at work and also for some very small personal projects. It takes some time to learn, but it is great once you get used to it. Hope it goes well for you.

Yes, initially I was not very enthusiastic about Git.
However, it is quite logical, the various Repository/Branch sizes do not swell much and the way it manages commits and the Ids make branching as well as Integrations across branches easy to follow and do.
One also needs to know good enough about its commands like those for Cherry Pick committing, operations on feature branching etc.

I have now in fact realized that Integration issues with Git are likely to be reduced than our older system.
But well, there are still quite many things that I am gradually learning about Git.

Hashtags can really help in giving a quick insight into the content of a post, making it easier for others to find relevant topics. Great to hear that admin is open to the idea, and hoping to see this feature in future upgrades.

Yes, it would be quite a help in augmenting content/articles' reach and even engagement.
Hoping for a future implementation.

Yes, it is good to use hashtag. They help categorize content, connect users with shared interests, and boost brand or site visibility.

Visibility and categorization should be the key advantages with the use of hashtags.

Bro you hit a really good point. This SEO stuff is very important if we want our content to reach far. Hashtags and keywords can really help Google identify our topics quickly.

Even if we don't know exactly what the algorithms do, we can still try. If we start small, every post will have an impact. I think it's a really cool idea to encourage people to use hashtags. Let's just start slowly.

Hopefully, if others too join in, we could slowly see an impact that would benefit all of us.

Listen old man, keywords still lead the SEO game. The words people are searching for are what bring you traffic.

But it's not about the quantity of words but their relevance. A hot keyword can give you a lot of customers in an instant.

The rising sun suddenly turns on the light. Place important keywords in your content with respect. If you are lucky enough to find a hot keyword you will see a big difference.
