Website owners should stop using these sliding flash menus.

Postby Netherrealmer » 17 Mar 2019, 15:11

I know many websites love using these flash script sliding menus on their UI.

They look visually appealing and kind of organized but I hate this type of script because during the times your connection is slow they take forever to load. Oh if you are browsing via smartphone for tablet, they are very hard to click because they are designed for desktop and mouse. You will end up clicking the wrong things because of it.

They also consume a lot of data too.

My site is very simple and the only pop up I have is the opt-in box which honestly I could no longer trace how to edit. It appears after 15 seconds. I wanted to extend the time but could no longer find how to do it.

Not sure why they would use flash because I think it's just a bit of Javascript, HTML and CSS. I've never really experienced any slowness with these types of drop-down menus

Yes I agree with you that sliding flash menus are more suited and designed for desktop and mouse, and are difficult to navigate on smartphone or tablet. But now in the age of fast internet connection, one will rarely face a problem of slow loading unless you are in some backward or rural area.

Just an FYI, the picture you show looks like a XenForo forum. Which does not use flash at all. (Any site that uses flash these days should be banned of the internet)
However, I most certainly could be wrong.

Are you willing to post a link of the website?

I don't know anything about programming but this makes sense. I have faced that problem when using my phone.
