I'm not sure if this is 'a problem that people actually HAVE with their affiliate-links,' but I imagine a lot of people "lose" their affiliate-credit when customers 'delete the affiliate-I.D.' before visiting the linked product.
Maybe there are some statistics for 'how often that happens' (which you might mention below, or somebody else does), but I'll skip straight to the solutions.
One solution is ... I think it's called 'the Interstitial Redirect (i.e. a hyperlink that sends clickers to another page in "the very small intervening space" before the target-site).'
I know two of those---one called Ad Focus (which was linked-to through a 'Random Redirect' (a category here, involving the Red Links (one at the bottom of each FC page))), another called CB Click.
CB Click SAYS you can earn money with their redirects, but my links aren't popular enough for me to know for sure. But they DO give you lots of information about your links---geographical areas where they're popular, which platforms they perform well on, etc.
Ad Focus also says they'll pay you (and are more specific about their payrate), but I've also caught site of a lot of rules of theirs---most notably, that they might cancel your account with them if you have too much credit coming from one IP-address (so you can't make money by 'blogging a list of their links,' I guess; or by clicking-&-reclicking (several thousand times) your own link ...
Here's the text I'm looking-at:
On their FAQs, Ad Focus wrote:... What is the policy on duplicate IP visitors?
In order to maintain high quality traffic for our advertisers and keep our payout rates as high as possible, we have to pay less for duplicate IP visitors. We made an important announcement about our payout rate policy for duplicate IP visits in our forum - "Unique / Duplicate IP Earnings Information". If you are sending a lot of traffic that includes duplicate visits from the same IP, it is important to take this into consideration.
Can I click my own links?
Whenever a click on your link is counted, it is first checked as a fraudulent click. A fraudulent click may include; a click from your home IP address, a click from an IP address in which your account has been logged in with, clicks from proxies, clicks from bots, clicks from automated software, and/or any other type of click we determine as fraudulent. The traffic we send to our advertisers needs to be high quality and we have performance metrics built into our system to track all of our users. Traffic that is deemed as fraudulent is not of good quality and can result in a ban. We try to be as fair as possible to our users and advertisers! To read more, visit our terms and conditions page.
Are there any important rules about where I should not post Ad Focus short URLs?
It is extremely important to read our Terms and Conditions as we have many important rules to keep Ad Focus a premium advertising network and keep providing the best payout rates you will find at any paid URL shortening service. If you do not abide by the Terms and Conditions, your account could be banned or warned.
The other redirect-type I'm looking at is called a Cloaked Link. It redirects directly to the page you're linking-to
through another page (which puts a frame- or a PopUp/island-on it ... the attached example shows my Cloaked Link (by Viral URL) for The TVision Panel).
But again, my links aren't popular enough for me to know if they "protect my credit" (aside from the credit I get to advertise on OTHER cloaks) or if it actually 'throws my credit away!'
