Interesting question and one concern we have for when we introduce automatic payments.
There is not really anything stopping a user creating multiple accounts and spamming 25 posts with each account and then sending all the FC to another account and trying to use if for something. It is quite hard to prevent unless we have admins online 24 hours a day to check the forum and the logs of payments sent. We could stop new accounts being able to send forumcoin for a day or so but all that will do is just make users sign up for the accounts in advance and wait to spam.
If a user does this and tries to redeem the for paypal money for example, we will catch them. If they use it to buy a service from a user then it will depend on what the service is, the amount involved and the time it took us to respond. If a user buys hosting from Sam for example, we could probably take back most of the fc and ask sam to cancel the hosting. At the end of the day no one likes cheats so hopefully our members would help out. Usually we would detect this within a matter of hours. This makes it unlikely that it will go through multiple legit accounts. If it takes us a while to detect the cheating then we might just remove any fc left from the cheaters but let honest users keep the rest as it was our fault for not acting quick enough.
If you are accepting FC payments, just keep an eye on the posts that user made, if they are new and if they seem to have a high amount of fc for the posts they have. If you find a payment a bit suspicious, just wait a little while before giving them what they want so we have time to catch them.
Unfortunately we are not a big operation with hi tech anti cheat detection like paypal checking every payment so there are risks of financial loss to us and all users but we will alway be fair especially if you follow the steps above. We wouldnt try and reclaim fc sent to you a week previously because it was a cheater. It is unlikely that any fc earned through cheating would go further that one honest users account rather that a chain where is was sent to you then you sent it to someone else and they brought something from another honest user. Companies like paypal will claim back stolen money no matter what so even with paypal you can still lose out buy accepting a payment, providing a service and then the money being taken back by paypal as the payment was unauthorised or used a stolen CC. That has happened to me in the past and also fergal to a greater extent aswell. What i am saying is whenever you accept payments, there is always going to be some risk.
