Spam and sent

Postby jacktheking » 14 May 2015, 04:37

What if a member create many accounts. Use one of the account to spam. Before he or she was banned, the 'fake' coins was sent to another account. Using that account, he or she send it to another account and continue for another ten rounds. Some of the account was legitimate account with quality posts and real ForumCoin.

Mixing it up. What will the admin do? What is the consequences of doing this?

Calling Fergal and CyberFreak, I think this is a noteworthy question.

Interesting question and one concern we have for when we introduce automatic payments.

There is not really anything stopping a user creating multiple accounts and spamming 25 posts with each account and then sending all the FC to another account and trying to use if for something. It is quite hard to prevent unless we have admins online 24 hours a day to check the forum and the logs of payments sent. We could stop new accounts being able to send forumcoin for a day or so but all that will do is just make users sign up for the accounts in advance and wait to spam.

If a user does this and tries to redeem the for paypal money for example, we will catch them. If they use it to buy a service from a user then it will depend on what the service is, the amount involved and the time it took us to respond. If a user buys hosting from Sam for example, we could probably take back most of the fc and ask sam to cancel the hosting. At the end of the day no one likes cheats so hopefully our members would help out. Usually we would detect this within a matter of hours. This makes it unlikely that it will go through multiple legit accounts. If it takes us a while to detect the cheating then we might just remove any fc left from the cheaters but let honest users keep the rest as it was our fault for not acting quick enough.

If you are accepting FC payments, just keep an eye on the posts that user made, if they are new and if they seem to have a high amount of fc for the posts they have. If you find a payment a bit suspicious, just wait a little while before giving them what they want so we have time to catch them.

Unfortunately we are not a big operation with hi tech anti cheat detection like paypal checking every payment so there are risks of financial loss to us and all users but we will alway be fair especially if you follow the steps above. We wouldnt try and reclaim fc sent to you a week previously because it was a cheater. It is unlikely that any fc earned through cheating would go further that one honest users account rather that a chain where is was sent to you then you sent it to someone else and they brought something from another honest user. Companies like paypal will claim back stolen money no matter what so even with paypal you can still lose out buy accepting a payment, providing a service and then the money being taken back by paypal as the payment was unauthorised or used a stolen CC. That has happened to me in the past and also fergal to a greater extent aswell. What i am saying is whenever you accept payments, there is always going to be some risk.

I appreciate your long and specific reply. As I said before, ForumCoin.ninja can be a mixing service too. I was worrying about it. Now I have understand how ForumCoin tackle this issue. I had also came out with an idea to stop 'illegal' ForumCoin to join the network. Once again, thanks for the reply.

No problem :D In your specific case you could help protect us and yourself by taking a few steps to help ensure they are good members. Firstly there are many members here that have posted many hundreds of times over the past 6 months+ so it is fair to say that these members are pretty trustworthy so any transfers to their forumcoin.ninja account can be made quickly without much risk (still some risk but a much lower risk). Newer users or users that has posted less or just look a bit suspicious then you can just delay adding their funds for a short while just to help ensure that they are good members. Also setting some maximum limits of how much can be transferred may also help reduce the risk. Obviously there is still a risk though. Users with higher reputation counts or post counts or registered longer than x months for example can transfer more into forumcoin.ninja. That might be a good thing to consider. If you are an active user in the community, you kind of know some users quite well and know who has done many deals in the past honestly and even may know some members from other sites where you visit.

There is always going to be a risk and by accepting forumcoin like with any other form of payment, you have to accept that sometimes things may happen and you may lose out a bit. We have to accept that sometimes we will have to cover some losses experienced by users if we have messed up and not done a reasonable amount to prevent or detect abuse.

You are always more than welcome to send me a PM if a user seems suspicious and I can do an in depth look into the account. Aslong as we try our best and people offering services like you try your best, we should collectively pretty much stop cheaters profiting from their behaviour. We don't want users to be put off but equally we are not going to lie and say that there won't be any abuse and we will cover all losses you face so just accept every payment or order. Dealing with people abusing what we offer here is one of the two biggest things we have to deal with along with keeping the site financially viable. It isn't something that has an easy solution. It is an ongoing and ever changing process as what we offer changes and as what our members offer changes aswell. The key is time as it really needs humans to check various aspects and then make a decision rather than complex automated processes that try to make decisions.

Noted. I'm not a person who will wrote long post. I'm sorry if I hurt you by replying short post. I will be coming out with a set of rules. Only people who follow the rules will be allowed to deposit. Those who dont, their ForumCoin will be send back with a note telling them whatever rules they broke - such as, new account, suspicious activity etc.

Well, I could say that cheaters should be cautious. They should never underestimate this forum's administrator. As seen, they know what they are talking about. Thank you CyberFreak for that reply, I was quite worried with the question too. And that reply gave a kind of assurance.
