This is excellent, and I like how it's broken down into sections that are made easier to remember with the acronym. This is a great article for parents to show to their kids. I think they'll pay attention to it better than hearing the same advice from a parent. For some reason, when the advice comes from me (or any other parent), the kids take it as "preachy" and "bossy", but a published article comes across as neutral and logical.

Well said @spiderdust. The younger generation always finds it easy to accept suggestions or ideas given by friends or from a source which they consider as neutral. They are not ready to accept the same thing coming from a parent who they consider wouldn't let them be on their own. Good article from Fergal.

Thanks for the fantastic post, Fergal! I too wish I had this list when I first started working online about 3 years ago, because I was joining so many different sites and giving out a lot of information without much thought. Of course, over time I was able to watch and learn from seasoned online workers. But this information will definitely come in handy for a lot of people :)

Thank you for this well-written post. It is really an informative one. We should not give our identities freely here in the internet because there are people who took advantage of that knowledge and use it to scam us. They might use it to extort money from us.
